Gastroscopy – how to prepare?

Gastroscopy is an important diagnostic procedure that enables a detailed examination of the inside of the stomach and esophagus. 1. Consultation with a doctor

2. Detailed instructions

The doctor will give you specific medical instructions on how to prepare for a gastroscopy. These instructions may include dietary and medication restrictions during a certain period before the procedure.

Dietary preparation:

The day before the examination: limit your food intake, especially heavy and fatty foods.
12 hours before the examination: the examination is most often performed in the morning hours. 12 hours before the examination itself, you must not consume food or drinks, and smokers must not smoke for at least three hours before the gastroscopy.

3. Information about important details

Ensure accompaniment: since anesthesia can cause temporary disorientation, it is important to have someone accompany you home after the procedure.
Comfortable clothing: choose comfortable clothing that will allow easier access to the neck area.

4. Conversation with the anesthesiologist

If anesthesia is planned, talk to the anesthesiologist about your health conditions, allergies, or other questions related to the administration of anesthesia.

5. Calmness and understanding

Being calm and informed is key to a successful gastroscopy. Ask doctors and nurses questions so that you are fully informed and prepared for the procedure itself.
