What is cervical carcinoma – briefly

Cervical carcinoma arises from the epithelium of the cervix, most often as a consequence of a long-term infection with high-risk types of the HPV virus. In the early stages, the disease often passes without symptoms, while clinical signs appear only in locally advanced changes.

Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging represents the gold standard in local staging of cervical carcinoma. It enables a detailed assessment of:

– the size and location of the tumor
– parametrial involvement
– the relationship to the urinary bladder and rectum
– the presence of pathological lymph nodes

The MRI finding directly affects the choice of therapy and the planning of surgical or oncological treatment.

Monitoring after treatment of cervical carcinoma
