What our patients say
Today I had a gastroscopy with Dr. Prim. V Supanc and I would like to thank both the doctor and the nurse who was with him today for their professionalism, kindness, and empathy, and who tried to comfort me and make me laugh because I was very afraid of that examination, and she succeeded. Findings normal Thanks once again to the whole team!

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

What is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive diagnostic method that uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency waves to produce detailed images of the body’s internal structures. This examination enables precise visualization of the brain, spine, joints, soft tissues, and internal organs without the use of ionizing radiation.

When is MRI recommended?
MRI is used for diagnosing neurological, orthopedic, and oncological conditions, including:

  • Spinal and joint pain
  • Neurological disorders and brain injuries
  • Assessment of tumor changes and inflammatory conditions
  • Blood vessel issues and internal organs

Why choose Drinković Polyclinic?
At our polyclinic, we use a state-of-the-art 1.5T MRI device, which enables precise examinations with maximum patient comfort. A team of experienced radiologists ensures fast and accurate interpretation of findings, while flexible appointment times allow for short waiting times.

Frequently asked questions

What should I expect during an MRI?

The procedure is painless and non-invasive, and there are no harmful ionizing rays or radiation. A specially qualified radiologic technologist will position you and set everything up for your examination. During the MRI examination, you are inside the device. The machine produces repetitive sounds, which is why you will be given special headphones that muffle the sounds so that you feel more comfortable. It is important to remain as still as possible throughout the entire examination because movement creates artifacts and the image will not be suitable for analysis. It is also important to follow the technologist's instructions. Your MRI technologist will place specialized coils around the area of the body being scanned. The examination may last from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on whether contrast is used and which area of the body is being scanned.

How to prepare for an MRI?

Be sure to bring all medical documentation (medical history) related to the examination you are undergoing. Wear comfortable clothing, and metal objects such as jewelry, money, metals, and other items should be left in the area designated for changing. Remove hearing aids as well as dental prostheses. People who must not undergo MRI are patients with an implanted pacemaker (that is not compatible with the MRI device) or objects made of ferromagnetic materials. If additional instructions are needed, you will receive them when booking the appointment.

Intravenous contrast (IV) and preparation (if necessary)

Before every magnetic resonance imaging scan, it would be good to have urea and creatinine test results so that our doctors can assess whether they are allowed to give you IV contrast. If you do not have urea and creatinine test results, you will also be able to have them done at the clinic. If you are a kidney patient, then it would certainly be absolutely necessary to have urea and creatinine test results done. Inform the doctor or technologist if you are allergic.
