What is a TRUS examination?

Transrectal ultrasound of the prostate (TRUS) is a specialized diagnostic method used to examine the prostate through the rectum using ultrasound. This procedure enables highly precise imaging of the prostate structure, detection of enlargement, inflammation, cysts, tumors, and other abnormalities that may affect urination or fertility.

When is TRUS needed?

TRUS is recommended for men with elevated PSA findings, urinary difficulties, suspected prostate cancer, or as part of infertility evaluation. This method is also used for precise guidance of a prostate biopsy when necessary.
