What is assessed with transvaginal ultrasound

• uterus: position, size, shape, and structure of the myometrium
• endometrium: thickness, structure, and cyclical changes
• ovaries: size, follicles, cysts, and solid formations
• fallopian tubes if they are pathologically enlarged
• free fluid in the pelvis
• signs of endometriosis, fibroids, and adenomyosis

When TV US is indicated

• pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis
