Postpartum check-up

The postpartum check-up is a mandatory and exceptionally important gynecological examination after childbirth used to assess the recovery of the uterus, vagina, and pelvic structures, healing after delivery, and the mother’s overall gynecological health. At Polyclinic Drinković, the examination is performed professionally, discreetly, and with an individual approach to each patient.

When the postpartum check-up is performed

• most often 6–8 weeks after delivery
• earlier if needed (pain, bleeding, elevated temperature, complications)
• after vaginal delivery or cesarean section

What the postpartum check-up includes

• detailed gynecological examination
• assessment of the healing of an episiotomy or cesarean section
• transvaginal or transabdominal ultrasound
• assessment of uterine involution
• assessment of the endometrium and retained placental structures
• examination of the ovaries and pelvis

• discussion about breastfeeding, the menstrual cycle, and returning to physical activity

Ultrasound assessment after childbirth

• size and position of the uterus
• thickness and appearance of the endometrium
• exclusion of retained placental remnants
• assessment of possible free fluid
• assessment of the cesarean section scar
