Mini Anomaly Scan

Mini Anomaly Scan is a targeted fetal ultrasound examination performed during pregnancy for the purpose of a quick and focused assessment of the basic fetal anatomical structures. The examination does not replace a detailed anomaly scan, but serves as a supplementary or follow-up test according to the clinical indication.

What is assessed with the Mini Anomaly Scan

Basic fetal morphology including: the head and brain structures, spine, chest, heart in basic views, abdomen, stomach and urinary bladder, extremities, as well as the amount of amniotic fluid and placental position.

When the Mini Anomaly Scan is performed

Most often between the 18th and 24th week of pregnancy, as a follow-up examination between regular ultrasound examinations or when there is a need for a quick assessment of fetal anatomy.

Most common indications

Follow-up examination after a normal earlier finding, suspected or uncertain finding on routine ultrasound, pregnancy monitoring in cases of increased maternal anxiety, supplementary assessment in high-risk pregnancies according to the gynecologist’s recommendation.

Advantages of the Mini Anomaly Scan examination

Short examination duration, focused assessment of key structures, non-invasive method without radiation, possibility of repetition, and quick availability of results.

Limitations of the test

Mini Anomaly Scan is not a replacement for a detailed anomaly scan and does not include an exhaustive analysis of all fetal structures or detailed fetal echocardiography. The findings are always interpreted in the context of gestational age and previous examinations.

Preparation

No special preparation is required. It is recommended to bring previous ultrasound documentation if available.
