What our patients say
Today I had a gastroscopy with Dr. Prim. V Supanc and I would like to thank both the doctor and the nurse who was with him today for their professionalism, kindness, and empathy, and who tried to comfort me and make me laugh because I was very afraid of that examination, and she succeeded. Findings normal Thanks once again to the whole team!

Targeted prostate biopsy

What is targeted MR/US fusion prostate biopsy?

Targeted MR (magnetic resonance) / US (ultrasound) fusion biopsy is a technology that creates an image of the prostate by combining previously recorded MRI images with real-time TRUS (transrectal ultrasound of the prostate) images.

This diagnostic method greatly improves the accuracy of the diagnostic procedure of prostate cancer biopsy because information from MR images is fused with real-time ultrasound images to enable physicians to biopsy targeted zones directly from suspicious regions of the prostate visible on MR images.

The difference between a classic biopsy and a targeted MR/US fusion biopsy of the prostate?
Most prostate biopsies are still performed “blindly,” and in this procedure 12–15 biopsy samples are taken at random in an attempt to find cancer if it is present.
While targeted MR/US fusion biopsy greatly improves the precision of sampling suspicious tissue, and the entire prostate is not biopsied, but only targeted suspicious areas.
Biopsy still remains the ultimate method that determines the presence of cancer and establishes the appropriate prognosis, based on the size and aggressiveness of the tumor.

When is targeted MR/US fusion biopsy of the prostate used?
It is used to take samples from suspicious prostate lesions seen on MR examination.

What should I expect during an MRI and how should I prepare for it?

Intravenous contrast (IV) and preparation!
