How to prepare and what to expect during an MRI examination?
Wear comfortable clothing. You will leave your bra and other items such as jewelry, money, metals, and other belongings in the changing area. Remove hearing aids as well as dentures.
People who must not undergo MRI are patients with an implanted pacemaker (that is not compatible with the MRI device) or with objects made of ferromagnetic materials. If additional instructions are needed, you will receive them when scheduling your appointment.
The procedure is painless and non-invasive, and there are no harmful ionizing rays or radiation. A specially qualified radiologic technologist will position you and set everything up for your examination. During the MRI examination, you are inside the device. The machine produces repetitive sounds, which is why you will receive special headphones that dampen the noise so that you feel more comfortable. It is important to remain as still as possible throughout the entire examination because movement creates artifacts and the image will not be suitable for analysis.
Your MRI technologist will place specialized coils around the area of the body being scanned. The examination may last from 5 minutes to half an hour, depending on which diagnostic technique we are using.
