Gastrointestinal tract diagnostics using X-ray

Barium (contrast) is a dry powder mixed with water to prepare a liquid that you drink before or during the examination. When the contrast enters your digestive system, it coats the inner mucous membranes and appears as a white form on the X-ray image.

We perform several different diagnostic methods with barium, including:
a) Act of swallowing with esophageal fluoroscopy – esophagogram
b) Stomach and small bowel passage (small bowel passage with barium meal)
c) Lower part of the digestive system (iridography)
d) other special imaging procedures

How to prepare for the examination?
For an esophagogram, upper digestive tract examination, and small bowel examination, you should not eat or drink after midnight, i.e. you should arrive fasting. If you take any medications, you should take them after the examination. For the lower part of the digestive system, you will receive instructions when scheduling. The examination is usually performed in the morning. You will receive all detailed instructions when scheduling.
