What our patients say
Today I had a gastroscopy with Dr. Prim. V Supanc and I would like to thank both the doctor and the nurse who was with him today for their professionalism, kindness, and empathy, and who tried to comfort me and make me laugh because I was very afraid of that examination, and she succeeded. Findings normal Thanks once again to the whole team!

Ergometry (stress test) Zagreb | Drinković Polyclinic

Ergometry, or the cardiac stress test, is a diagnostic examination used to assess heart function during physical exertion. At the Drinković Polyclinic in Zagreb, we perform ergometry without waiting, with continuous ECG monitoring and expert interpretation of the findings immediately after the test is completed.

The stress test is an important part of the cardiology workup when coronary heart disease is suspected, for assessing physical capacity, and for monitoring the effectiveness of therapy.

What is ergometry (stress test)?

Ergometry is a cardiology examination during which the patient walks or runs on a treadmill or rides a stationary bike with gradually increasing workload. During the test, ECG, blood pressure, and clinical symptoms are continuously monitored.

The goal of the examination is to assess how the heart responds to physical exertion and to detect possible abnormalities that are not visible at rest.

When is ergometry recommended?

Ergometry is recommended in the following situations:

  • Suspected coronary heart disease
  • Chest pain or pressure during exertion
  • Shortness of breath during physical activity
  • Assessment of work and sports capacity
  • Follow-up after myocardial infarction
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of cardiology therapy
  • Preventive assessment of cardiovascular risk

Ergometry at the Drinković Polyclinic in Zagreb:

After the test is completed, the findings are interpreted immediately and the patient is given clear recommendations for further evaluation or therapy.

Preparation for ergometry

Minimal preparation is required for ergometry:

  • comfortable clothing and footwear for walking
  • avoid heavy meals before the examination
  • take therapy according to the doctor’s instructions
  • bring previous medical documentation if available

Ergometry as part of the cardiology workup

The stress test is often combined with other cardiology examinations for a complete heart assessment:

  • Specialist cardiologist examination
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
