A shoulder X-ray is performed with a minimal radiation dose (around 0.01 mSv), which is equivalent to approximately 1–2 days of natural background radiation

When is a shoulder X-ray not enough?
If there is suspicion of injuries to the rotator cuff tendons, labrum, or soft tissues, the doctor may recommend shoulder MRI.
