What our patients say
Today I had a gastroscopy with Dr. Prim. V Supanc and I would like to thank both the doctor and the nurse who was with him today for their professionalism, kindness, and empathy, and who tried to comfort me and make me laugh because I was very afraid of that examination, and she succeeded. Findings normal Thanks once again to the whole team!

Ultrasound of the urinary tract

Urinary tract ultrasound
Urinary tract ultrasound

What is a urinary tract ultrasound?

A urinary tract ultrasound is a non-invasive ultrasound examination used to assess the kidneys and urinary bladder, and if necessary, the prostate. The examination is safe, radiation-free, and can be repeated without limitations. It is used for a quick assessment of the causes of urinary system complaints and for monitoring known urological conditions.

What is examined?

  • Kidneys – size, shape, parenchyma, pyelocaliceal system, stones, cysts, hydronephrosis
  • Urinary bladder – wall, contents, residual urine after urination
  • Prostate (if necessary) – volume, structure, assessment of benign enlargement (BPH)

When is a urinary tract ultrasound recommended?

  • Pain in the lower abdomen
  • Lower back pain
  • Frequent, painno or difficult urination
  • Blood in the urine (hematuria)
  • Suspicion of kidney stones or infection
  • Monitoring of an enlarged prostate
  • Follow-up of previously detected changes (cysts, dilatations)

How to prepare?

  • Drink 0.5–1 L of fluid 30–60 min before the examination
  • Arrive with a full urinary bladder
  • No special diet is required

What does the examination look like?

The examination takes 10–15 minutes, is painno, and is performed using an ultrasound probe over the skin of the abdomen. If necessary, residual urine and prostate volume are measured.

Advantages of urinary tract ultrasound

  • No radiation or contrast agent
  • Quick report on the same day
  • High diagnostic value
  • Suitable for all age groups
