What our patients say
Today I had a gastroscopy with Dr. Prim. V Supanc and I would like to thank both the doctor and the nurse who was with him today for their professionalism, kindness, and empathy, and who tried to comfort me and make me laugh because I was very afraid of that examination, and she succeeded. Findings normal Thanks once again to the whole team!

About thyroid ultrasound

Thyroid ultrasound is a diagnostic method used to examine the thyroid parenchyma as well as other adjacent structures in the neck. Ultrasound is used to detect various changes in the appearance of the organ.

The thyroid is an endocrine gland that sends hormones into the bloodstream and regulates various bodily functions.

What are the most common thyroid diseases?

The most common thyroid diseases are:

  • hyperthyroidism
  • hypothyroidism
  • euthyroid goiter (struma)
  • thyroid autonomy disease
  • thyroid inflammations
  • chronic autoimmune thyroid disease: Hashimoto’s disease, lymphocytic thyroiditis
  • thyroid tumors

Our radiology specialist will analyze your ultrasound images, write a radiology report, and clarify any possible uncertainties. We also perform cytological punctures of nodules. If a suspicious lesion is found, you can immediately have a cytological analysis done as well. The cytological report is completed within 5 working days.

When should a thyroid ultrasound be performed?

A thyroid ultrasound should be performed if you notice any of these symptoms:

  • constant fatigue
  • loss of concentration
  • feeling depressed
  • tachycardia
  • frequent headaches
  • increased sweating
  • unexplained weight loss (accelerated digestion)
  • sudden increase in body weight (slowed metabolism)
  • insomnia
  • brittle and fragile nails
  • increased hair loss

How to prepare for a thyroid ultrasound?

A thyroid ultrasound is a completely painless examination. It is performed in a lying position. The radiologist will measure the size of the thyroid, check the morphology, and monitor any possible changes. No special preparation is required for this examination.

Why is it important to regularly undergo a thyroid ultrasound?

Regular check-ups are important for the early diagnosis of thyroid diseases and the timely determination of therapy. The thyroid is regularly monitored by testing hormone levels and by thyroid ultrasound. An endocrinology specialist will review your findings and recommend when the next check-up is needed.
