Color Doppler of the arteries of the upper extremities at Polyclinic Drinković is a non-invasive, painless ultrasound examination used to assess the patency and hemodynamics of the arm arteries. The examination enables precise detection of stenoses, occlusions, atherosclerotic changes, thrombosis, and functional flow disorders.

When is a Color Doppler of the arm arteries performed?

The examination is recommended in cases of: pain in the arm during exertion or at rest, coldness or tingling in the fingers, differences in blood pressure between the arms, weakness or rapid fatigue of the arm, suspicion of subclavian steal syndrome, after vascular procedures or when monitoring a known vascular disease.

What is assessed during the examination?

The examination analyzes the subclavian, axillary, brachial, radial, and ulnar arteries. The morphology of the vessel wall, the presence of plaques, the degree of narrowing, and the direction and velocity of blood flow are assessed using Color and spectral Doppler.

What does the examination look like?

The examination is without radiation and without contrast, lasts about 20–30 minutes, and is performed in a lying or sitting position. No special preparation is required, and the report is available immediately after the examination.
