MSCT (CT) of the pancreas

Pancreatic MSCT (CT) is a modern radiological method that uses a multislice CT device to provide a detailed view of the structures of the pancreas, surrounding organs, and blood vessels. This examination enables early detection of tumors, inflammatory changes, and other pathological conditions, which is crucial for timely treatment and planning further therapy.

When is pancreatic MSCT recommended?

Pancreatic CT is indicated in cases of:

• suspected pancreatitis (acute or chronic)
• unclear pain in the upper abdomen
• suspected tumors or cysts of the pancreas
• monitoring the condition after surgical procedures or therapy
• detection of metastases and assessment of the extent of the disease
• planning interventional or surgical procedures

This examination is often performed with contrast medium for better visualization of blood vessels and tissue differentiation.

Patient preparation

For pancreatic MSCT, preparation is important for a quality finding:

• do not eat or drink for 4–6 hours before the examination
• inform the doctor about allergies to contrast or kidney problems
• remove metal objects that may interfere with imaging

What does the examination look like?

The patient lies on the CT scanner table, and the contrast medium is administered intravenously. The scan lasts a few minutes, while the entire procedure with preparation usually takes 20–30 minutes.

The radiologist analyzes the images and prepares a detailed report, which the patient receives as soon as possible.
