Low-dose CT according to the nephrolithiasis protocol
What is low-dose MSCT according to the nephrolithiasis protocol?
Multislice computed tomography (MSCT) according to the nephrolithiasis protocol is a diagnostic method in which a CT device and X-rays (ultra-low doses – up to 80% less radiation) are used to take images from different angles, obtaining cross-sectional images of your urogenital system without the use of contrast medium.
When is this examination used?
This examination is used to rule out the presence of kidney stones (nephroliths), stones in the urinary tract (uroliths), and stones in the urinary bladder that are not visible on an ultrasound examination.
How to prepare and what to expect during a CT examination?
Before the CT examination, remove all metal objects from the imaging area so that they do not create artifacts and thus produce a poor image. If contrast administration is required, please bring your urea and creatinine test results before the examination. If you do not have your urea and creatinine results, you will also be able to have them done at the polyclinic. Inform the staff about any current medications or allergies. Also mention if you have suffered from any illnesses or if you have had medical procedures.
It is also important to bring your medical history, if you have it. Inform the staff in case of pregnancy because the examination then cannot be performed. For some tests, you will be asked not to eat or drink for several hours before the examination, i.e. depending on the examination you are having on the CT, but you will be informed of all more detailed instructions when booking.
