Preparing the patient for MSCT of the neck

No preparation is needed for a CT of the neck without contrast. If contrast is used, it is recommended to:

• not eat or drink for several hours before the examination
• inform the doctor about allergies to contrast or kidney problems
• remove jewelry and metal objects from the head and neck area

What does the examination look like?

The examination is quick and painless. The patient lies on the CT scanner table, and the scan takes only a few minutes. If contrast is used, a temporary warmth may be felt in the body during the scan.

Radiologists then analyze the images and prepare a detailed report, which the patient receives within a short time.
