MSCT (CT) angiography

CT angiography (MSCT angiography) is an advanced, non-invasive radiological method for visualizing blood vessels throughout the entire body – the brain, neck, heart, lungs, abdomen, and extremities. Using a CT device and the application of a contrast agent, very clear, three-dimensional images of blood vessels and surrounding tissue are obtained.

When is MSCT angiography performed?

MSCT angiography is recommended in the following cases:

• suspected aneurysms (abdominal, thoracic, and other blood vessels)
• detection of atherosclerotic changes and stenoses in the artery walls
• identification of arteriovenous malformations, aortic dissection, pulmonary embolisms
• blood vessel injury after trauma
• planning vascular procedures or assessing the condition of blood vessels before surgical treatment

Patient preparation

In order for the CT angiography result to be as reliable and safe as possible, it is advisable to:

• not eat or consume liquids for several hours before the examination if a contrast agent is used
• remove all metal jewelry, prostheses, and similar items before imaging

Duration of the examination

The scan itself often takes a very short time (a few seconds to minutes), but the entire procedure including preparation may take around 20 minutes, depending on the region and protocol.
