3D virtual colonoscopy

CT colonography (CTC)
Research shows that early detection of colon polyps can reduce the mortality rate from colon cancer, and a traditional colonoscopy is time-consuming and uncomfortable for the patient. CTC is a non-invasive alternative to traditional colonoscopy.

What is 3D virtual colonoscopy or MSCT colonography?
Virtual colonography (VC) or computerized tomographic colonography (CT colonography, or CTC for short) is a diagnostic method that uses 2D and 3D images of the large intestine to analyze the entire large intestine from the rectum all the way to the ileocecal opening, and the organs of the abdomen and pelvis are also analyzed.

When is MSCT colonography used?
Using X-rays and computer software, VC is used to diagnose intestinal diseases, including polyps, intestinal diverticulosis, and colon cancer. VC is performed on a computerized tomography (CT) scanner.

What can you expect during virtual colonography?
The examination lasts about 15-30 minutes, and after the procedure you can continue with all activities. The CT technician will ask you to lie on your side on the CT table. A thin catheter only a few centimeters long will be inserted into the rectum. Air will then be insufflated through the catheter so that the large intestine expands and is accessible for analysis. The table moves through the scanner to produce a series of 2D cross-sections along the length of the large intestine. A computer program assembles the 2D images into a 3D image that allows the doctor to examine your intestine as in a traditional colonoscopy, while also showing the surrounding organs and any changes in them. The radiologist evaluates the results to determine any abnormalities.

How to prepare for MSCT colonography?
Preparation for virtual colonography requires three days of bowel cleansing and preparation for the procedure, and all instructions will be provided to you by the staff of our clinic.
