Dermoscopy
Dermoscopy is a non-invasive skin imaging technique that helps in the early detection of skin changes. A dermatoscope is a device that allows visualization of colors, structures, and patterns in skin lesions that are not visible to the naked eye. Dermoscopy is performed using a special optical device that magnifies lesions and changes that are inaccessible to visual inspection by the naked eye (typically 10 ×).
Applications of dermoscopy:
- in the early detection of melanoma
- in monitoring skin lesions suspicious for melanoma
- in diagnosing tumors
- in diagnosing skin parasites
- in the diagnosis of warts
- in the diagnosis of fungal infections
- in diagnosing diseases of the hair and scalp
